In its second year in April, 2016, 135 runners and walkers signed up for this event. Dave Mead set the pace on the USATF course finishing in 20:32. Dawn Evans led the women with a 23:04 effort. David Meeker (18:14) and Mindy Hidenfelter (22:24) hold the event records.
Those records will stand as not only will the race be moving from a spring to a fall date, but the race is also moving to a new course in Joyner Park in Wake Forest located at 701 Harris Road.

The event is managed by the good folks at Woodland Baptist Church in Wake Forest. Proceeds will benefit two area ministries – Church NET and Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry.
Participants in the 5K can either register as a “competitive” or a “recreational” participant. The competitive runners will be issued chips, will receive official times, and be eligible for awards. The recreational runner/walker will not receive an official time but will be able to see his/her finishing time in a digital clock at the finish line.
The entry fees for either the competitive and recreational entrants are the same - $25 on or before August 10 and $30 thereafter. T-shirts are guaranteed to all entrants registered by August 10. After that date it will be “as available.”
Due to Joyner Park policies, there will be no race day registration.
Pre-registered runners can pick up their packets beginning at 6:30. The race begins at 8 am.
Awards will be given to the top three male finishers overall, to the top three female finishers overall, and to the top three finishers of each sex in the following age divisions: 9 and under, 10-13, 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60-over.
