After a 4-year hiatus due to COVID, this event was reinstated in 2023. Eighty-eight participants turned out for the event that was held on a different course from previous years. William Burton led the field to the finish in 21:14. Bonnie Baker won the women’s competition in 29:15.
The event begins and ends at Louisburg High School located at 201 Allen Lane in Louisburg. The featured 5K begins at 9 am, while the Fun Run for kids ages 11 and younger starts at 10 am.
Registrants in the 5K can register either as a competitive or recreational entry. Competitive entrants will receive an official time and be eligible for awards. Recreational entrants will not receive an official time, but they will be able to see their finishing times on a digital clock at the finish line.
The entry fee for the 5K is $35, but all Louisburg High School students get a $10 discount. The fee for the Fun Run is $15. There also is a special $25 rate for groups of five or more.
The fees for both the 5K and the Fun Run include a t-shirt, guaranteed to all those registered NLT April 5. After that date t-shirts will be distributed “as available.”
In the 5K awards will be given to the top male finisher, to the top female finisher, and to the top two finishers in each of the following age groups (both sexes): 14-under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and over. One must enter as a competitive runner to be eligible for one of the awards.
After the race there will be inflatables and refreshments including free sno cones.
