This will be the 21st running of this event. In 2013 Kaleb Keyserling won the 10K race in 32:51 breaking the course record by 4 seconds. Michelle Langan Carlson won the women's competition in 36:07 – also a new course mark for the women. The 5K winners included Brett Howell who won with a 16:40 effort and Allison Camp who won the women’s title in 19:00. Both of those marks were also new course records.
The start/finish area for both races is located at Waverly Place behind Whole Foods located at 102 New Waverly Place in Cary. Most of the run will take place in the Lochmere sub-division.

The Distance Festival 5K Run is also the eighth event in the eleven-race Second Empire Spring 2014 Grand Prix Series. Runners who participate in these races accumulate points and are awarded money and prizes at an awards banquet held at the Second Empire Restaurant at the conclusion of the Series. The 10K will start at 8 am, and the 5K begins at 8:05 am. Both courses are USATF-certified.
The registration fee for either race is $15 on or before April 25, $20 (April 26-May 2), and $25 on race day. Entrants can also order a dri-wick technical t-shirt for $15 if their entry is received or postmarked NLT April 16. A limited number of shirts will be available at packet pickup on the 1st and on race day.
Pre-registered runners can pick up their race packets and late registrants can enter either Thursday, May 1st, at Inside Out Sports in Cary from 5-7 p.m. or on race day at the start/finish area beginning at 6:30 a.m. Inside Out Sports is located at 2002 Grisdale Lane in Cary.
There will be a special drawing for a $50 gift certificate to Inside Out Sports for all those who either pick up their packets or register at the store Thursday night during the hours of packet pickup.
In each race awards from Inside Out Sports will be presented to the three men overall, the top three women overall, and the top three finishers in each of the following age divisions: (both sexes) 12-under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-59, and 60-over.
