In its second year in 2013, over 450 runners and walkers registered for this event held at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. Isaac Stroud led all finishers in the 5K in 18:50. Rebecca Boggs took the women’s title in 20:01 a new course record for women in this event. Austen Hughes holds the event course record of 17:47 set in 2012.
The race will benefit “Someone Special Like Me”, nonprofit organization formed to help fill the needs of the children in Wake County’s special needs community. All proceeds will go to fund the first building in Wake County completely dedicated to recreation for special needs children.
In 2014 this event is proud to be the final race for the Second Empire 2014 Spring Grand Prix.
The Kid's Dash starts at 8 am, and the featured 5K Run/Walk begins at 8:30 am.
The entry fee for the 5K is $20 on or before May 18th, $25 from May 19th - May 24th, and $30 on race day. The fee for the Kid’s Dash is $10. T-shirts for either race can be ordered for an additional $10 if registration is dated on or before May 15th.
Registrants in the 5K can register either as a competitive or recreational entry. Competitive entrants will be issued a chip, will receive an official time, and be eligible for awards. Recreational entrants will not receive an official time, but they will be able to see their finishing times on a digital clock at the finish line.
Awards will be given to the top three finishers overall in the Men’s and Women’s category, and the top three finishers in each of the following age divisions 12-under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-59, 69-69, and 70-over.
Late entrants can register and pre-registered entrants can pick up their packets at Fleet Feet Sports in Raleigh located at 3532 Wade Avenue (Ridgewood Shopping Center) on Friday, Saturday May 24th from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. Late entrants can also register and pre-registered entrants can also pick up their packets on race day at WakeMed Soccer Park beginning at 7 am.
