Overview

In 2017, Selma NC marks its 150th birthday, and special events are planned throughout the year. To get things started, Selma will host a DOG-FRIENDLY Polar Bear 5K Run and Fun Walk on January 21, 2017.

Registration will begin at 9am at the Jernigan Building, 110 East Anderson Street in uptown Selma. The race will start at the intersection of Webb and Waddell Streets at 10am. Refreshments will be available for both human and canine participants after the race.

The entry fee is $20 for the competetive (timed) 5K through 12/01/16, and $25 thereafter. For those preferring to participate as a non-competetive (untimed) Walker, the fee is $15 until 12/01/16 and $20 thereafter. Entry fees include t-shirts which are guaranteed to all those entered by January 19.  After that date, t-shirts will be "as available," so register early!

Entrants have a choice of entering as a competitive or recreational entrant. Competitive entrants will receive an official time and be eligible for awards. Non-competetive entrants will not receive official times, but can either time themselves or see their times on the digital clock at the finish line.  The course is USATF-certified and is the same course used for the Selma Railroad Run in October.

In the 5K run, the top male overall, the top female overall and the top three finishers in each of the following age groups will receive awards (both sexes):14-under, 15-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54 and 55-over.

This is a “dog-friendly event,” and entrants are encouraged to participate with their friendly dogs. Of course, everyone is expected to clean up after their dogs, and all vaccines should be up-to-date!
