Overview

Now in its seventh year, this 5K race had 62 entrants in 2016.  Spencer Husen won the race in 18:21.  Alicia Rider, the defending champion, was the top woman finisher in 20:46. David Meeker holds the course mark of 16:51 set in 2013.  Meghan Hegarty holds the women’s course record of 20:28 set in 2011.

The race takes place at the Pine Level Volunteer Fire Department located at 110 West Main Street in Pine Level.  The Town of Pine Level is just a few mile east of Smithfield..

On race day, late registration and packet pickup opens at 7 am.  The 5K and mile start at 8:15 am, and the Jr. Firefighters Kids’ Dash begins at 9:15 am

The entry fee is $25 for the 5K and $30 after April 5th.  For the mile, the fee is $15 (shirt included) or $10 (no shirt).  However to be guaranteed a shirt the $15 fee must be received by April 5th.  There is no fee for the Jr. Firefighters Dash (limited to children ages 12 and under) but it does not include a shirt.

In addition to the regular shirts, one can upgrade to a tech shirt for an additional $6.  Additional shirts can also be purchased – regular t-shirt for $8 and tech shirt for $12..

In the 5K awards will be given to the top three males overall, to the top three females overall, and to the top three finishers in each of the following age groups: (both sexes) 13-under, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-over.

The event will is held to honor the fallen firefighters and retired members that have served the citizens of the Town of Pine Level and the Pi-Le Fire District. All proceeds will go towards a PLVFD Fallen Firefighter memorial site and scholarship program in their remembrance.
