Last year, there were 92 finishers in the 5K led by Aaron Hale (17:31). Kristy Smith won the women’s title with a 21:17 clocking. Since 2017 was the inaugural running for this race, both performances are course records.
Once again, the run will be held at Lake Benson Park in Garner (921 Buffalo Road for your GPS) starting at 9 am. Click here to download a course map.
Entry fees for the 5K run are $30 with a $5 discount for anyone age 18 and under. The fees for the Walk are $20 and $15 for anyone 18 and under. The fees for the Walkers increase by $5 on 3/28. The fee includes a t-shirt, guaranteed to all those entered by May 13. A special t-shirt is available to those who consider themselves either a victim or survivor of a drunk driver.
Pre-registered entrants can pick up their packets and late entrants can register on Friday, June 1, from 3-7 pm at Inside-Out Sports in Cary OR on race day morning at the race site beginning at 8 o'clock. Runners will start at 9:00 and walkers begin at 9:10.
Awards will be given to the top three male finishers overall, to the top three female finishers overall, and to the top finishers in the following age groups (both sexes): 11 and under, 12-17, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-over.
Race proceeds will benefit MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving).
The race is also part of the 2018 Second Empire Grand Prix.
