Last year 44 runners and walkers entered the event. Mark Mutz, defended his title that he had won in 2002, by leading all runners across the finish line with a 19:14 clocking. Kathleen Danaher De Card (22:45) was the first female to finish. Since this was the first year this course had been used, both are the existing course records.
The event is held at Smith Elementary located at 1101 Maxwell Drive in Garner, and the 5K course is run through the Greenbrier Estates neighborhood. The race begins at 9 am.
The entry fee is $25 up to and including October 6. The fee then will be $30, up to and including race day. T-shirts are guaranteed to all entered by October 25

Entrants have the option of participating as a timed finisher or non-timed. Here is the difference:
Those who register as a timed entrant will receive an official time at the end of the race and will be eligible for awards. Those who register not to be timed will not receive an official time or be considered for any of the postrace awards. However, all finishers will be able to see their finish times on a digital clock at the finish line or can time themselves.
Awards will be given to the top three women finishers overall, to the top three male finishers overall, and to the top finishers in each of the following age groups (both sexes): 12-under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70-over.
In honor of Veteran’s Day, race proceeds will benefit the South Wake County’s VFW relief fund. To learn more about the great services they provide to area veterans and to the Garner community, go to
