Overview

The Feminist 5k is a fun run/walk/roll/renunciation of the patriarchy. The race celebrates social change with a spirit of resisterhood, and the distribution of free bananas. Proceeds benefit the Women's Center of Wake County.

At its best, feminism is about equal dignity and respect - the simple idea that women are people and no person is less than any other. The current wave of progressive activism is a continuation of the fight for equal dignity for all, and an affirmation that if you show up to participate in something larger than yourself, you belong - and that our visibility matters.

If you've ever been to a 5k or any road race, you have seen support and inclusion in action. Even when you are at the back of the pack (speaking from experience here), everyone wants you to succeed, and they cheer you on. If you show up to participate, you belong.

Come run/walk/roll with us.

In its second year, over 330 runners and walkers turned out for this event.  Omer Abdulraham led all finishers with a 16:53 clocking – breaking the old course record. Natalie Taylor led the women in 22:51. Colleen McCarthy holds the women’s course record of 19:42 set in 2017.

The race begins on Chavis Way at Chavis Park (522 Chavis Way for your GPS) and follows the Little Rock Trail Greenway to the Walnut Creek Wetlands Center, and continues in the Walnut Creek Trail to the turnaround. The route is out and back. There is a water stop near the Wetlands Center.

The course is USATF-certified. Click here to download a course map. The event is sanctioned by the USA Track & Field.

Registrants can register either as a competitive or recreational entry. Competitive entrants will be issued a chip, will receive an official time, and be eligible for awards. Recreational entrants will not receive an official time, but they will be able to see their finishing times on a digital clock at the finish line.

The entry fees are the same for each category – $20 up to and including March 1, $25 up to and including May 9th, and $30 thereafter, up to and including race day.  The entry fee includes a t-shirt guaranteed to all entered by May 27th.  After that date, it will be “as available.” Extra shirts can be ordered for $5 if ordered by May 27th.

Those ages 12 and under can enter as a recreational entry for no cost or as a competitive entry for $5.  Those fees do not include a t-shirt, but one can order a shirt for $5 before May 27th.

Awards will be given for the overall top three timed finishers (female and male), and the first female and male finishers in the following age groups: 0-12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and older.

Late entrants can register and pre-registered runners can pick up their packets on Friday, June 7, from 4-7 pm at Fleet Feet Raleigh at the Ridgewood Shopping Center.
