Overview

Last year, over 150 runners and walkers signed up for this event.  Hayes Weatherman set the pace on the USATF-certified course finishing in 19:11, breaking the old course record by five seconds.  Allison Dease also set a new course record for the women with a 25:23 clocking.

Once again, the event will take place at Joyner Park located at 701 Harris Road in Wake Forest.  In addition to the featured 5K, there will also be a one-mile run/walk.

The event is managed by the good folks at Woodland Baptist Church in Wake Forest.  Proceeds will benefit two area ministries – Church NET and Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry.

Participants in the 5K can either register as a “competitive” or a “recreational” participant. The competitive runners will be issued chips, will receive official times, and be eligible for awards. The recreational runner/walker will not receive an official time but will be able to see his/her finishing time on a digital clock at the finish line.

The one-mile run/walk will not be officially timed, but participants will be able to see their finishing times on the digital clock at the finish line.

The 5K entry fees for either the competitive and recreational entrants are the same - $25 on or before August 11 and $30 thereafter.  The fees for the mile are also $25 and $30, respectively. T-shirts are guaranteed to all entrants registered by August 11.  After that date it will be “as available.”

Due to Joyner Park policies, only credit card payments can be accepted on race day.

Pre-registered runners can pick up their packets beginning at 6:30.  The 5K race begins at 8 am, while the mile starts at 9 am.

In the 5K, awards will be given to the top three male finishers overall, to the top three female finishers overall, and to the top three finishers of each sex in the following age divisions: 9 and under, 10-13, 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60-over.
