The 41st Annual Cary Road Race is one of the area’s oldest events annually drawing over 1,000 entrants.
The event takes place in Downtown Cary, starting and finishing at the Downtown Park at the corner of Dry Avenue and Academy Street. In addition to the two races the event features food trucks, live bands, local beer and more. The longest event of the day will be a 5-Mile race replacing the 10K run in past years. The race is managed by Town of Cary Parks, Recreational and Cultural Resources.
In April of 2018, Seth Hutchinson won the 5-Miler in 26:16 and Rita Dorry (31:48) was the overall winner in the women’s competition. Since this was the first year this event had been run, both times are course records
In the 5K Alan Freeman won that race after covering the course in 18:00. Brennan Liming was the top woman finisher in 18:59. Since that year was the first time that course had been run, they are both the new course marks in the 5K.
Unlike last year where both races started at the same time, in 2019, the 5 Miler will begin at 8;30 am and the 5K at 8:45 am.
The entry fee is $25 up to and including April 2. T-shirts are an additional $10.
April 2 is the last day to register on-line for $25. After that date, the entry fee increases to $35 up to and including race day.
There will be two opportunities for late entrants to register and for pre-registered entrants to pick up their packets prior to race day. The first will be on Thursday, April 4th, at Inside-Our Sports in Cary (2002 Grisdale Lane) from 4-7:30 pm. The second will be at the Mayton Inn (301 S. Academy Street) on Friday, the 5th, from 5-7:30 pm.
Late entrants xan also register and pre-registered entrants can also pick up their packets on race day morning at the Mayton Inn beginning at 7 am.
The Cary Road Race 5-Miler is part of the Second Empire 2019 Grand Prix Series. Runners who participate in these races accumulate points and are awarded prizes at an awards banquet held at the Second Empire Restaurant at the conclusion of the Series.
