This will be the fourth year for the Cary Academy 5K (formerly known as the Cary Academy Charger Derby 5K ) which is held at Cary Academy in Cary, NC. The race is run entirely on the school campus which is located at 1500 North Harrison Avenue in Cary. The race starts at 9 am. There will be two water stops on the course.
Over 330 runners and walkers entered this event in 2018 with Charles Bibery capturing the overall honors in 18:10. Emma Astrike-Davis won the female title in 19:01 setting a new course record for the women. The men's course record is by Ryan Laytham (17:12), set in 2016.
Participants have the option of entering as a competitive or recreational entrant. Here are the differences. The competitive entrant will be issued a timing chip, will receive an official finish time, and will be eligible for awards. The recreational entrant will not be given a chip, will not receive an official time or be eligible for the awards. All participants will be able to see their finishing time on a digital clock at the finish line.
Entry Fee
The entry fee is the same for either category - $30, increasing to $35 after April 7 up to and including race day The fee includes a t-shirt, guaranteed to all those registered by April 24.
Parking
Parking will be in the Upper School parking lot and will be accessible through the main school entrance and the side entrance by the middle school. The secondary side entrance will be closed all morning.
For the safety of all participants and volunteers, parking lots will close at 8:30. Please respect this deadline to insure the safety of everyone involved. Volunteers will be stationed at both school entrances to direct vehicles and answer any questions.
Race Packets
Race packets can be picked up and late entrants can register at Omega Sports in Park West Village (3025 Market Center Drive, Morrisville) on Friday afternoon, May 3, from 3:00 - 5:30pm.
Race packets also can be picked up and late entrants can also register beginning at 7:30am on race day at the CA Fieldhouse.
Awards
Gift cards from Omega Sports will be awarded to the top male finisher overall, to the top female finisher overall and to the top three finishers in each of the following age group categories (both sexes): 9-under, 10-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60-
Expo
Following the race there will be an expo offering a wide range of products and services from local companies that support the school. A number of vendors will be holding raffles. Winners will be announced throughout the morning and during the awards ceremony after the race. One must be present to collect prizes.
