About the Race
Running with the Chapters 5K!!
The Running of the Chapters 5K Run/Walk is held in conjunction with the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) National Conference. This annual event has been held during every in-person ASFPM Conference since 2013. The race is open to all Conference attendees and includes a friendly competition between chapters to win the award, and bragging rights, of the chapter with the most participants.
Gift Cards will be given to the top 3 fastest participants!
Transportation
Bus transportation will be provided to and from the Convention Center. The pick-up/drop-off zone will be outside the entrance nearest the conference registration desk (i.e., S. Salisbury Street). Two buses will depart, one at 6:00 AM and the other at 6:30 AM. If you wish to drive yourself to the race, navigate to the parking lot located adjacent to the race start. Buses will begin returning to the Convention Center after the last participant crosses the line. We will stagger the departure times by 15 to 30 minutes to ensure everyone has a ride when they need it.
Restrooms
Prior to the start of the race at 7:00 AM, restrooms are available at McDonald’s nearby. Restrooms are also available at Crabtree Valley Mall but not until after the run starts since the mall does not open until 7:00 AM.
Crabtree Creek Trail
The course is a straight out-and-back run along the Crabtree Creek Greenway Trail. There will be a water stop at the turnaround as well as a first aid station. There will be markers at the 1-mile, 2-mile, and 3-mile spots. At the 3-mile mark, you may want to wipe the saliva off your beard since there may be a photographer at the finish line! For more information about the course, please see our location page.
