The 27 Strong race is a charitable event for one of the athletes on The Performance Academy baseball team. His father, a veteran, was diagnosed with squamous cell nasopharyngeal carcinoma - a very rare form of cancer. He previously went through the struggles with this cancer 20 years ago and, since then from treatment and time, it has come back with a significant amount of side-effects eliciting numerous surgeries and treatment plans.
The race will begin and end at The Performance Academy located at 1010 Classic Road in Apex, beginning at 9 am.
Entrants have a choice of entering as a competitive or recreational runner. Here is the difference. Competitive entrants will receive an official time and be eligible for awards. Recreational entrants will not receive official times, but can either time themselves or see their times on the digital clock at the finish line.
The entry fees are the same for either category - $30 with a special entry fee for $90 for a Family of four or more. After August 2nd, the fees increase to $35 and $100, respectively. On race day, the individual entry fee will be $40. The entry fee includes a t-shirt that is guaranteed to all those entered by July 30..
Awards will be given to the top male finisher overall, to the top female finisher overalland to the top male and female finishers in the following age divisions: 9 and under, 10-13, 14-16, 17-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40 and over.
