Event Overview

The NCRC Classic Half-Marathon & 10K Races are now in their 25rd year and considered to be two of the Triangle area’s premier distance races.

In 2021 statewide event size limitations prevented use of Umstead Park so we only had the 10k race using a modified course on the Cary greenway. Ethan Gallagher (33:11) and Jennifer Hannigan (38.03) were the top finishers in the 10K. We are excited to bring the half marathon event back for 2022.

Both the 10K and half-marathon have USATF certified “out-and-back” courses that start on paved road, transition through crushed-gravel and the hard-packed bridle trails of Umstead State Park, and finish on pavement. Both the 10K and 13.1 courses officially close at 10:30 a.m.

The entry fee for the half-marathon is $50 up to and including February 28, $55 from March 1 to April 30, and $60 thereafter.  For the 10K, the fees are $25, $30, and $35, respectively.  T-shirts are guaranteed to all those entered by May 1.

In both races awards will be presented to the top three women overall, to the top three men overall, to the top three masters finishers of each sex. The half marathon awards the top three finishers in each of the following age groups: 17-under, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70-over. The 10k awards the top overall finisher in each age group

Late entrants can register and pre-registered entrants can pick up their packets on Saturday, May 14, from 2-6 pm at Omega Sports in North Hills OR on race day at the start/finish area beginning at 6 am.

What's New:

If you’ve run this race in the past, there are a few changes this year:
  • Sunday packet pickup is on Old Reedy Creek past the Homestead Veterinary Hospital.
  • Approved parking is at 3001 Weston Parkway and 3000 Weston Parkway.

Registration/Packet Pickup:

If you choose, you can pick up your race packet on Saturday, May 14th between 2 pm and 6 pm at:

Omega is offering 20% select merchandise off with your race number Saturday and Sunday

We will begin race day registration and packet pickup at 5:30 am on Sunday, May 15: Old Reedy Creek Road (keep walking past Homestead Veterinary Hospital) Cary, NC 27513
  • Picking Up for Others: Bring a copy or photograph of their ID.
  • Half to 10K: bring your half marathon bib to late registration, and I will reassign you a 10k number.
  • 10K to Half: same instructions; the cost to change is $25.
  • Transfers: The new runner comes to packet pickup with a photo of your ID. They will fill out a new registration form, so we have their correct information for scoring. There is no cost to transfer.
  • Bring a friend! Late registration is $35 for the 10k and $60 for the half marathon.

Baggage Check:

As before, we are offering baggage check on race day. (We have the index cards and bags)
  1. Write your last name and number on an index card.
  2. Put the card and your things in a clear plastic bag.
  3. Show your number after the race to pick up your things.

Aid Stations:

There are 8 aid stations (4 that you pass twice) with Lemon/Lime Gatorade and Water.
The aid stations are around mile 1.3, 2.8, 4.0, 5.8, 7.4, 9.2, 10.6, and 12.
To help keep the park clean, we are not offering gels. If you bring your own, please use the garbage cans near the aid stations.

Race Start:

The Half Marathon starts at 7am
The 10k starts at 7:15 am

Pacers:

We have pace leaders for 1:50, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20, 2:40 finish times for the half marathon. We have additional pacers I'm waiting to hear from.

Weather Policy:

The race will take place rain or shine. If we need to cancel the race in the event of inclement weather, it will not be rescheduled.

Race Day Parking:

We encourage you to arrive early to avoid parking stress and to carpool if you can. Approved parking is at:

Everyone who registered before May 2 has a race shirt included in their registration. If you registered later, I have ordered extra, you can pick up or exchange sizes after the race.

Unclaimed awards will be at Omega Sports by Tuesday May 17. Awards not claimed after 4 weeks are returned to the sponsor.

COVID Info:

  • Masks are not required at packet pickup or at the race start.
  • If you would like a disposable mask, we have them at race-day packet pickup.
  • If you are feeling sick, please stay home.
