LAST YEAR
The race was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic, but in 2019 Omar Wiggan, captured his fourth Run for Liberty title in a row, winning in 16:52.  Wiggan also holds the event record on 16:40 which he set in 2016. Alicia Rider won the women’s title with a 21:18 effort.  Catherine Seaton holds the women’s event record of 19:15 which she set in 2017.
 
THE COURSE
The trail at Wake Med Soccer Park has a smooth running surface with grass and gravel and follows a partially shaded trail through a wooded area. A water station will be at the halfway point. The 1-Mile Fun Run starts at 8:00am and the 5k starts at 8:30am. This is a sanctioned USA Track & Field event with chip timing provided.

WHY WE RACE 
All profits go directly to Amputee Coalition of America, a national non-profit organization. Amputee Coalition is the nation’s leading organization on limb loss. With the generous support of the public, they are helping amputees live well with limb loss, raising awareness about limb loss prevention and ensuring amputees have a voice in matters affecting their ability to live full, thriving lives.

TIMED OR NOT TIMED
This year the race is offering the option not to receive an official time if one wishes.  The timed runners will recieve an official time which will be listed in the results, and they will be eligible for awards.  The untimed option are for those who do not care about being listed on the results or being eligible for awards.  However, all finishers will be able to see their finish times on a digital clock at the finish line.

REGISTRATION
All runners are welcome, amputees race free! 5k registration is $35. Teams of four or more get a $5 discount per runner. 1-Mile Fun Run registration is $15. T-shirts are included in registration fee (T-shirt not guaranteed for registrations after 6/16). A late fee of $5 applies for any registrations after 6/26.

AWARDS
Medals and prizes will be awarded in the 5k to the top 3 males overall, top 3 females overall and top 3 amputees as well as to the top finishers, both male and female, in the following age categories: 11-under,12-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-over.

COVID GUIDELINES
In accordance with the Governor's latest executive order, there are no limits to how many can participate in the event and masks are not required, but can be worn if desired.
