How to Race:

We were so thankful for the ability to continue on with our race virtually last year but we know everyone missed the hills, the smiling faces, the competition, the fellowship, the outreach, and everything else that we’ve grown to love from the North Hill 5K! We are thrilled to be back in-person on September 11th, 2021 for the 15th Annual North Hills 5K benefiting BackPack Buddies through North Raleigh Ministries.

Why Race:

Proceeds from the race go to support the Backpack Buddies program through North Raleigh Ministries. North Raleigh Ministries strives to meet the needs of families and individuals with emergency situations who live in North Raleigh. Through the Backpack Buddies program, North Raleigh Ministries helps combat food insecurity experienced by children in our local schools.

Race History:

Now in its 15^thyear, this race raised over $46,000 for Backpack Buddies through our virtual format last year. Franklin Sterling finished 1st overall in the 5K race with a time of 18:38, while Kristy Smith was the top female with a 22:57 clocking.

Sam Montclair hold's the course record at 16:00 in 2018.
Betty Geiger holds the women’s course mark of 18:25 set in 2011.

Race Details:

The morning begins with the 100-yard Dash for Kids beginning at 8:45 am. The 5K starts at 9 am, and the mile begins at 9:30 a.m. BibTag timing will be available for the 5K. No official times will be taken in the other two races.

There also will be a Senior Stroll for people ages 60 and older which begins at 9 a.m. This is a walking event on the Recreation Outreach Center's indoor track. There is no set distance. Participants can register the day of the race for $10, which includes a t-shirt.

The entry fee for the 5K is $25, increasing to $30 after August 31. The fees for the mile and Kid’s Dash are $10 and $5, respectively, with no late fees. T-shirts are guaranteed to all those registered by September 6. After that, it will be “as available.”

In the 5K, awards will be presented to the first three males overall, to the first three females overall, to the first three master finishers of each sex, and to the first three finishers in each of the following age groups: 12-under, 13-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69.70-74, 75-79, and 80-over
