After a one-year hiatus, the NC National MPS Society 5K returns.  In 2017, the race was held in WakeMed Soccer in Cary with 59 people registered.  Emmaus Holder (22:01) and Tia Casady (29:17) took the top spots.

This year the race has been moved to Dix Hill in Raleigh.

The entry fees are $25 for the 5K Run, if one wishes to receive an official time and be eligible for awards, and $20, if one does not wish to be timed.  The fee for the one mile is $10  One race day, all fees increase by $5. 

The 5K starts at 8:00 am while the 1-Mile Walk begins at 8:10 am.

In the 5K, awards will be presented to the first male overall, to the first female overall, and to the first three finishers in each of the following age groups (both sexes): 12-under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70-over.

​The National MPS Society has raised over $5 million through fundraising efforts for research of MPS and ML diseases.  Every dollar raised will go to research - EVERY DOLLAR.

Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) and related diseases are genetic lysosomal storage diseases (LSD) caused by the body's inability to produce specific enzymes. Normally, the body uses enzymes to break down and recycle materials in cells. In individuals with MPS and related diseases, the missing or insufficient enzyme prevents the proper recycling process, resulting in the storage of materials in virtually every cell of the body
