In its third year in 2017 Baretta Exley led all finishers in 17:44. Lucille Ketterer finished in 19:33 to take the women’s title breaking her own course record of 20:25 set in 2015. Jimmy Yokel holds the course records for the men of 16:10 set in 2015.
The race is put on by the Louisburg High School Athletic Booster Club to raise money for the scholarship fund to benefit exceptional student athletes at Louisburg High School. The race starts and finishes at the school located at 201 Allen Lane in Louisburg.
In the past, this was a morning race, but it has been moved to the afternoon this year. In other changes,a Tot Trot for ages 6 –under have been added to the day’s activities.
The Tot Trot will begin at 3 pm while the featured 5K will start at 4 pm.
Entrants in the 5K have a choice of entering as a competitive or recreational runner. Competitive entrants will receive an official time and be eligible for awards. Recreational entrants will not receive official times, but can either time themselves or see their times on the digital clock at the finish line.
The 5K entry fee is $25. All those registered by April 7th will also receive a t-shirt. The entry fee for the Tot Trot is $5. There is no pre-registraion for the Trot. All Tot Trot entrants will register race day and will also recive a LHS brachlet.
In the 5K awards will be given to the top three male finishers, to the top three female finish. ers, and to the top two finishers in each of the following age groups (both sexes): 12-under, 13-16, 17-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and over. One must enter as a competitive runner to be eligible for one of the awards.
