Run or walk in honor of our dedicated Military Personnel & Veterans. Deck yourself out in a patriotic costume and show off your American spirit! Prize will be awarded to the best dressed! Remember to register early, and we welcome all sponsors. PRIZES INCLUDE Durham Bulls tickets, 1 free year of LowesToGo, and North Carolina FC soccer tickets! Now in its fifth year, this event had a record field of 297 entrants last year. Omar Wiggan set a new course record for the event finishing first in 16:40. Anna Armfield also set a new record for the women with a 20:19 clocking.
THE COURSE
The trail at Wake Med Soccer Park has a smooth running surface with grass and gravel and follows a partially shaded trail through a wooded area. A water station will be at the halfway point. The 1-Mile Fun Run starts at 8:00am and the 5k starts at 8:30am. This is a sanctioned USA Track & Field event with chip timing provided.
REGISTRATION
All runners are welcome, amputees race free! 5k registration is $25. Teams of four or more get a $5 discount per runner. 1-Mile Fun Run registration is $10. T-shirts are included in registration fee (T-shirt not guaranteed for registrations after 6/15/17). A late fee of $5 applies for any registrations after 6/24/2017.
AWARDS
Medals and prizes will be awarded in the 5k to the top 3 males overall, top 3 females overall and top 3 amputees as well as to the top finishers, both male and female, in the following age categories: 11-under,12-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-over.
SECOND EMPIRE GRAND PRIX
Once again, the race is part of the Second Empire Grand Prix Series – the 8th race in fifteen race Series. Runners who participate in these races accumulate points and are awarded prizes at an awards banquet held at the Second Empire Restaurant at the conclusion of the Series
