Event Overview

The NCRC Classic Half-Marathon & 10K Races are now in their 20th year and considered to be some of the Triangle area’s premier distance races. Last year the Half Marathon distance was designated as the 2017 RRCA  Half Marathon State Championship.

In 2017 Matthew Howe (1:19:22) and Nicole Esplin (1:25:21) took top honors in the half-marathon while Omar Wiggan (35:39) and Blair Disque (43:15) were the top finishers in the 10K. Both the 10K and half-marathon have USATF certified “out-and-back” courses that start on paved road, transition through crushed-gravel and the hard-packed bridle trails of Umstead State Park, and finish on pavement. Both the 10K and 13.1 courses officially close at 10:30 a.m.

The NCRC Classic Half Marathon is part of the Second Empire 2018 Grand Prix Series (you must participate in the Half Marathon to receive points). Runners who participate in these races accumulate points and are awarded money and prizes at an awards banquet held at the Second Empire Restaurant at the conclusion of the Series.

In previous years, over 1,000 runners have participated in the event which is produced by the North Carolina Roadrunners Club and this year is sponsored by Omega Sports.

Portions of the proceeds from the race will support several local causes, including the Wake County Holiday Cheer Program (via the nOg Run Club), Umstead State Park (via The Umstead Coalition) and The American Red Cross – Triangle Chapter.
