Overview

This event had over 400 entrants in its debut in spring of 2017.  The event, which is put on by the Glenaire Retirement Community, starts and finishes at their facility located at 4000 Glenaire Circle in Cary.

Omar Wiggan led all finishers with a 16:58 clocking, while Kyle Feldman led the women with a 18:44 performance.  Since this  was the first year that course had been run, both times are the course records.

Once again, this event will be part of the Second Empire Grand Prix.

RACE BENEFACTOR

As a non-profit , Presbyterian-affiliated organization,. Glenaire has never asked any residents to leave their community simply because they had outlived their resources. In its 24 years, Glenaire has provided well over $3 million in financial assistance.  In 2018, they expect to provide over $350,000 in scholarship funds. All of the race proceeds will support this cause

ENTRY FEES

Those in the 5K can choose between entering as a competitive entrant or as a recreational entrant.  Here is the difference:   the competitive entrant, while not necessarily fast, simply wishes to have his or her name listed in the official results, receive points in the Grand Prix Series, and be eligible for one of the awards.  The recreational entrant is not interested in having his official time published, getting Grand Prix points, or being eligible for awards.  However all finishers will be able to see their finishing times on a digital clock at the finish line.

The 5K entry fees are the same for the competitive and recreational entrant - $30 increasing to $35 on race day.  For the milers, the fee is $20 with no late fee.  Children ages 12 and under are free for the mile with no shirt, but they can choose to purchase one for $10.

T-shirts will be included with the entry and are guaranteed to all those registered by March 20.  After that date, they will be “as available.”  Entrants will also receive a swag bag, flat pack running belt, and pint glass as supplies last.
