Last year a field of over 80 runners and walkers registered for this 5K race, Luis Majano took top honors in 18:53. Nicole Martin was the top female finishers with a 26:36 effort. Jessica Schmidt set the women’s course record of 18:52 for the event in 2011. Derek Fenton holds the event record for the men (16:04) which he set in 2008.

A new course will be run this year starting and finishing at Black Belt Leadership Academy.  The address for your GPS is 1716 Westover Drive in Sanford, NC  27330.

The race will be an out and back with a turn around at the beginning and end of the course. The course will follow Keller-Andrews Road in West Sanford. The course has two gradual climbs and descents. It is a fun and easy course. Water will be available at the turn around point and at the finish line.

The 5K race begins at 10 am followed by the 1-mile event for children ages 12 and younger at 11 am. Both races start and finish at the Academy..

The entry fees are $25, later increasing to $30 after  February 1st. The fun run is $10 with no late fee. The entry fee includes a t-shirt. .

In the 5K, awards will be presented to the first three males overall, to the first three females overall, and to the first three finishers in each of the following age groups: (both sexes) 14-under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70-over.
