Last year a field of over 110 runners and walkers registered for this 5K race, Luis Majano took top honors in 17:20. Haley Juno-Galdes was the top female finishers with a 19:42 effort. Jessica Schmidt set the women’s course record of 18:52 in 2011. Derek Fenton holds the course record for the men (16:04) which he set in 2008.
This year there has been a slight change in the course. Instead of starting and finishing at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Meeting House, the race heasquarters will be across the street at the San-Lee Chapel. The address for your GPS is 3215 Keller Andrews Road, Sanford, NC.
The race is managed by Boy Scout Troop 806 in Sanford and the proceeds benefit that organization.
The 5K race begins at 10 am followed by the 1-mile event for children ages 12 and younger at 11 am. Both races start and finish at The San-Lee Chapel.
The entry fee is $30. The fun run is $10 with no late fee. T-shirts are additional - $6 for adult sizes and $5 for kid’s sizes.
In the 5K, awards will be presented to the first three males overall, to the first three females overall, and to the first three finishers in each of the following age groups: (both sexes) 14-under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70-over.
