Overview

Last year Rita Beard led the field of 134 women over the Dix Hill course. Carol Rowe was the top master, finishing in 19:22.

Several changes have been instituted this year. In addition to the name change, the Recreational 5K has been dropped.  Instead there will be a mile run/walk for both sexes.  And while, the course will again be on the campus of Dix Hill, it will be a new course.  The start/finish area will still be located at the Haywood Building at 805 Ruggles Drive.

The early entry fees are $25 for the women-only 5K, $15 for the mile, and no cost for the two kid’s run – a 100-yard dash and a ¼-mile run. After May 31, the fee for the 5K is $25, increasing again to $30 after August 31, up to and including race day.  For the mile, the fee increases to $20 after August 31, up to and including race day.  However, t-shirts will only be given to those registered by September 12th.

The Competitive 5K for women is the first event of the day beginning at 8:30 am. The mile will start at 9:30 am.  The Kids' 1/4-Mile and 100-yard dash events will begin as soon as the mile is completed.  Registration for the Kid,s Runs will take place on race day morning.

In the 5K awards will be presented to the top three finishers overall, to the top two masters overall, and to the top three finishers in each of the following age groups: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70-over.

Late entrants can register and pre-registered entrants can pick up their race packets at Capital Run/Walk in Cameron Village on Friday, September 19, from 4-7 pm, and also at the start/finish area on race day beginning at 7 am.

A portion of the proceeds from the race will benefit Interact, a private non-profit agency whose mission is to provide safety and support to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
